Spring is the season of the Wood Phase in the cycle of the Five Elements that underlie Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Representing new beginnings and growth, just like a branch on a tree, Wood has the job of maintaining a smooth flow of valuable energy--qi--throughout the body.
If you're a Wood Type as defined by this system, you could be what we today in the West call a "Type A" personality. For the high-strung Type A, feeling "stressed and burned out" can certainly be a common challenge.
When in balance, you as the Wood Element Type will be confident, assertive, bold, ambitious, competitive, powerful, direct, committed, and decisive--able to make sound decisions and cope with whatever comes your way.
If out of balance, on the one extreme, the Wood Type might be described as angry, frustrated, moody, irritable, arrogant, confrontational, and intolerant.
If as a Wood Element person you're deficient in the other extreme, you could be erratic, ineffectual, ambivalent, and scattered.
If you're a Wood Type, in order for you to stay in balance, you need to learn to look for and appreciate the "grays" in any situation, instead of merely seeing black and white. Although you thrive on challenges and enjoy a fast pace, you can become depleted--so it's crucial for you to make sure that peace and calm are included in your lifestyle. And though you love to be in charge, try to remain aware of possibly isolating yourself from the support and love others have to offer you. Lastly, practice self-discipline, especially if you're feeling frustrated and/or tempted to act impulsively.
Physically, if you're a Wood Type you might be more prone to:
eye problems, muscle spasms, sciatica, tendonitis, chronic neck and shoulder tension, migraine headaches, PMS or menstrual issues, easy bruising, and dry or brittle nails.
Your Acupressure Point: Liver 3, on top of your foot, just up from the hollow between your big and second toes.
